Azuarc's level guide, Act 18: Hellfire Peninsula West (61)

We've done a majority of the quests in the eastern half of the zone, with just a few exceptions that are all along the southern rampart. We're actually going to do those quests right now, but you need to make a trip to the Temple of Telhamat first to pick up a quest next to the innkeeper. For some reason unknown to me, it's level 61 required. (See below.)

After visiting Telhamat, your quest log should look like this:

  • Heart of Rage (Blood Furnace)
  • The Blood is Life (Blood Furnace)
  • Fel Spirits
  • Voidwalkers Gone Wild
  • An Ambitious Plan
  • Unyielding Souls
  • An Old Gift
  • Digging For Prayer Beads
  • Hellfire Fortifications (PvP daily)
  • The Pools of Aggonar
  • The Heart of Darkness
  • Overlord (Group)
  • In Search of Sedai
  • The Longbeards
  • Deadly Predators
  • The Rockflayer Matriarch (Group)
  • Cruel Taskmasters
  • Missing Missive (possibly)
  • Helping the Cenarion Post

Listed in the order we will pay attention to them.

Scene 0: Run Blood Furnace
(level 60/61)

Up above it was mentioned that you need to be level 61 to get one of the quests we will be doing to start off with. If you are still level 60, run the Blood Furnace now. If you are 61, you are welcome to do this at your leisure.

Quests completed: Heart of Rage, The Blood Is Life

Scene 1: Won't Back Down
(level 61)

We're going to focus on the southern areas of the zone in this scene. Each of the three areas we will visit surround the Zeppelin Crash. The first of these is to the west, Gor'Gaz Outpost.

This one is sometimes a bit annoying to figure out. Place the Anchorite Relic from your inventory on the ground near the orcs in the area and it should start sending blue laser beams at the nearby ones. Kill an orc near the relic, and its death should spawn a Fel Spirit. The Fel Spirits are what you actually need to kill for, er, the quest Fel Spirits. The one catch: you will only get a Fel Spirit after killing a Berserker and only if it is in range of the relic. The relic will eventually despawn and you'll have to summon another one.

From there, head south to the Warp Fields and start killing voidwalkers. A word of caution: the big swirling vortexes will sometimes spawn the VW's in groups of three when there aren't many others up, so don't fight under those unless you have a death wish. You need to kill the demons for Voidwalkers Gone Wild, and you need to target an Uncontrolled Voidwalker with the sanctified crystal you were given in Telhamat once you beat him up some.

Your final mission is to the Expedition Armory to the east. You have two goals, and one is a kill count, so focus on the other: go around the armory to the south and follow the ridge to an old dilapidated house. On the front stoop, you should find the book Father Devidicus wanted. From there, just start busting ghosts. Footmen tend to frequent the outside of the fortress more and sorcerers tend to be more common inside it. Knights simply patrol.

Stop off at the zep crash, and then return to Honor Hold.

Quests completed: Fel Spirits, Voidwalkers Gone Wild, An Ambitious Plan, Unyielding Souls, An Old Gift

Scene 2: Finishing Honor Hold
(level 61)

There are a few loose ends to tie up before focusing on the west. (Yeah, yeah, I keep saying that. I know.)

For starters, you need Anchorite Klatu's missing prayer beads. You'll need to buy some items for a doggy treat – they are all purchaseable. Maiden's Anguish is from the reagent vendor in the tower. The other two are sold by people in the inn. Give them to Tracy Proudwell, and she will give you Fei Fei's Treat. "Talk" to the dog and start the quest to have him find his favorite digging spots, and wait until he leads you to the final pile where the beads are.

Take them to the Anchorite and you will begin the exorcism of Colonel Jules. This quest is not difficult. You basically just need to keep zapping stuff with the prayer beads as soon as the cooldown is up. You can fight off the attackers yourself, but the prayer beads are the easiest way to go.

This will lead to an elite quest you can do at your leisure, Drill the Drillmaster. However, one other remaining task is the follow-up to Unyielding Souls, so return to the armory and hunt down Arch Mage Xintor and Lieutenant Commander Thalvos. They are along the western and southern sides of the fortress.

Quests completed: Digging For Prayer Beads, The Exorcism of Colonel Jules, Trollbane is Looking For You, Looking to the Leadership

Scene 3: Overlord
(level 61)

You might consider moving your hearthstone to Telhamat now.

The Pools of Aggonar are just west of the northern rampart. It's a very annoying little area, but kill some of the trash here until you have finished the quest named for the place. Return to Telhamat, and as you do, start advertising for a group for Overlord. You will not finish this quest with anything less than a good group. (One level 70 helping is usually not enough.)

As you look for group members, finish up The Heart of Darkness and go to the bone pile due north of the road entrance. In this area, use the cleansing vial you just got from the new quest, and slay Aggonis.

In the northeast corner of the pools is an altar where Arazzius the Cruel dwells. This is the overlord you will need the party for. (At least a healer, a tank, and a third person for DPS. You will probably want more.) He spawns adds partway into the fight, which is what makes this difficult. It is not vital that you complete this quest now, however the quest rewards are fairly nice. While you're at it, you might ask the group members afterwards if any of them need Drill the Drillmaster…

(P.S. Drill the Drillmaster is at the base of Hellfire Citadel, where the Path of Glory splits into two wings of the Citadel. Take the one on the left. Should be doable with 2.)

Quests completed: The Pools of Aggonar, Cleansing the Waters, The Heart of Darkness, Overlord, Drill the Drillmaster (maybe)

Scene 4: Sedai
(level 61/62)

Search for Sedai just east of Temple of Telhamat. Not east of the entrance, literally east of it. Not far at all. Not even worth giving coordinates. Return to the temple and get the follow-up from the guy next to him.

Head east of where you found Sedai's body and into the northern mountains where you will find the Mag'har Grounds. Kill orcs until you get 10 ancestral beads. The drop rate isn't wonderful, so this could take a little while.

Return to Telhamat.

Quests completed: In Search of Sedai, Return to Obadei, Atonement

Scene 5: The Longbeards Camp
(level 61/62)

Still have that Nethergarde Bitter from the very beginning of the last act? Check your bags, and run back to Nethergarde Keep if you've "misplaced" it.

Due south of the Temple of Telhamat, past Falcon Watch, is Dustquill Ravine. Further southeast is the Den of Haal'esh. Between the two is the camp of the Longbeards. Go say hi, and collect three new quests for the surrounding areas.

Head into the Den and start killing stuff. Focus on the kaliris (actual birds) rather than the arrakoa (bird men). The droprate for The Finest Down is going to be very irritating.

Move straight through the den into the gorge, and then immediately turn around. There are paths along both sides of the den that lead onto a second level. Take the one on the left (west) to reach the named arakkoa, Avruu. Kill him and loot his orb. Turn back southward into the gorge and follow it to a small hut in a cleft further out. You will find Avruu's Altar there, which you can activate to try to free Aeranus.

Stick around, killing kaliris until you finish the feathers you need. No doubt The Arrakoa Threat will be done already. When you finish, continue on the path through the gorge toward the stonescythe flayers. Kill the mobs you need for Deadly Predators, and then cross west through the tip of the Great Fissure back to the Longbeards.

Note: if you are able to find assistance, there is a cave in the Great Fissure a bit to the northeast where the matriarch lives. If you can get a group, try to do this now while you're here. Otherwise, just keep an ear out for it in general and get it done when you can.

On the other side of the camp, in Dustquill Ravine, you should kill the mobs in the area until you finish Rampaging Ravagers, and go back to turn it in.

Quests completed: The Longbeards, Gaining Mirren's Trust, Avruu's Orb, The Arakkoa Threat, The Finest Down, Deadly Predators, The Rock Flayer Matriarch (maybe), Rampaging Ravagers

Scene 6: The Cenarion Expedition
(level 62)

Running out of quests!? Ready to move on to the next zone!? Unpossible.

Head southwest to the Cenarion Post to complete a few lingering "report to" quests, and pick up a few new ones. We'll be questing in this area eventually, but now is not the time. We have a bunch of level 63+ targets on the remaining quests here, and the next zone over starts with level 60 targets again. Let's go some place where the skies are clearer and the air is cooler...

Get back on the road and take off west, straight through Thornfang Hill. On the other side you will find The Cenarion Refuge and the swampy zone of Zangarmarsh. Pick up all the quests you can find here, including the two off the wanted poster on the tower.

Then take the north road out of town, and follow it down the left fork toward the elevator that lifts you into the town of Telredor atop a huge mushroom. Pick up every quest you can here, grab the flight point, and set your hearthstone either here or at the Refuge.

Quests completed: Missing Missing, Helping the Cenarion Post, The Cenarion Expedition, Warden Hamoor
Flight points: Telredor (Zangarmarsh)

That's all, folks.

This act will be cut short by the fact that we want to start a new zone. The remaining Hellfire stuff will be continued down the pike. Level 62 will be good enough to access all the starter quests in Zangarmarsh, and things should be fairly easy by comparison here now.

All told, your quest log should be essentially full. In case you're worried about missing anything, here's what your quest log should look like at this point:

  • Cruel Taskmasters
  • Colossal Menace
  • Demonic Contamination
  • Keep Thornfang Hill Clear!
  • Sha'naar Relics
  • Fulgore Spores
  • Menacing Marshfangs
  • The Boha'mu Ruins
  • The Dead Mire
  • The Dying Balance (Group)
  • The Fate of Tuurem
  • The Umbrafen Tribe
  • Too Many Mouths to Feed
  • Unfinished Business
  • Disturbance at Umbrafen Lake
  • Leader of the Bloodscale
  • Plants of Zangarmarsh
  • A Warm Welcome
  • Leader of the Darkcrest (Group)
  • The Orebor Harborage

plus maybe a few floaters you have still lurking like The Rock Flayer Matriarch or your Hellfire Citadel quests. (Go take care of those! Seriously, get your one allotted Ramparts and Blood Furnace run. There's more to do in Zangarmarsh.)
