Fishing for gold!
Fishing is a great way to make gold, I know you hear it all the time, but I can't stress enough how much gold you can make just fishing. There are some great gathering skills out there and fishing is one of them. Think of this: You are simply standing and clicking on a blobber, there are no mobs to fight, no durability damage to take and everything you reel in is eventually going to or can be turned into gold and by doing what? nothing really, just running from one pool to another, using some lures that you can buy, or make yourself or have an alt make 'em for you and just clicking on a little blobber every few seconds when you hear the splash. Why fishing? Why not fishing? It doesn't cost you much to level it except time and if you are going to spend that time standing around in shath, might as well do that while fishing. It is extremely easy (albeit maybe a bit slow or boring) to level. It doesn't require much fighting (apart for clearing some mobs every now and then) and there is going to be a fishing daily soon with amazingly good rewards. With the patch 2.4 coming, fishing is going to be a great way to make gold, so why not level it now? In addition, it is a great ally to help you level your cooking. You don't have to go out and kill tons of mobs, just fish and cook and guess what, sell that cooked food for money or use it yourself. Granted with 2.4, fishing is not going to be an amazing addon to cooking anymore as you can level cooking on meat alone that you gather from several beasts that run amok in azeroth, but when you can stand, fish and cook, why not eh? If that's not enough to get you converted, you can also find a lot of fish that you can use in alchemy and if you are not an alchemist, you can sell those fish for good bucks. Still not enough? How about fishing chests out of the water which contains greens, blues even and cloth and all kind of goodies that can be sold to vendor or other players Furthermore, if you are a hunter, you can get tons of food for your pet and if you are rogue, you can get locked boxes out of them. A herbalist can catch some herbs like stranglekelp in wetlands and if you are a raider, you can fish The Lurker Below from the scalding waters of SSC. Woot eh? Ready to give it a shot I guess right? How do I level it? There are two ways to level fishing. If your toon is new, fish in every zone and as you move from zone to zone, keep your fishing skill up. This allows you to stop and fish a new pool that you see even when you are questing. Second is to simply stay in one of the major cities (Stormwind for example) and level your fishing up. It may be slow and it won't bring in much money in terms of gold, though you can still get good silver out of it, it is still easy to stay in the comfort of your home city and level all the way to 375. Ok Ok, how do I start? Simple, go see your low level fishing trainer (somewhere in your capital city) and learn your apprentice fishing skill (ask a guard for direction if you can't find one) pick up a small fishing rod, a couple of lures. As you will gain skills, you will see that you need to increasingly catch more fish to gain a point. The best part is, that it stays constant in all zones. Now the base skill level +95 is what you need to always constantly catch. So if you are fishing in SW where the base skill level required to fish is 0 (but in actuality, it seems that the base skill requirement is somewhere close to -70), you need 25 skill points in fishing for your fish to stop getting away from you and catch on every single turn (mostly). While in a place like wetlands where the fishing requirement is 55 (add 95), you will need 150 fishing skill to stop your fish from getting away and that's where the lures and other things come in. If you just got to wetlands while questing and your fishing is at 100, you can start fishing there, but you will see messages such as "Your fish got away", to stop that, simply use a +50 lure on your fishing pole (increasing your fishing to 100+50) and you will be able to catch 'em all. To level up fishing skill - Apprentice and Journeyman can be taught by any fishing trainer, but Expert is learnt by reading a book that you can buy from Old man Hemming in BootyBay (STV) and Artisan is learnt by doing a quest that Nat Pagle gives you (he is on a small island just west of Theramore in Dustwallow Marsh) and to learn the Master skill-set, you need to go buy a book sold by Juno Duffrain standing just outside of Cenarion Expedition camp in Zangermarsh. Things to increase your fishing Lures - Shiny Bauble (fishing +25) Nightcrawlers (fishing +50) Aquadynamic Fish Lens (fishing +50) Bright Baubles (fishing +75) Flesh Eating Worm (fishing +75) Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (fishing +100 - craftable via engineering) Poles Blump Family Fishing Pole (+3) - Quest Reward Strong Fishing Pole (+5) - Limited quality on different fishing supply vendors Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole (+20) - Quest Reward Arcanite Fishing Pole (+35) - Comes from STV Fishing Extravaganza Lucky Fishing Hat (+5) - Comes from STV Fishing Extravaganza Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots (+5)- Same as above High Test Eternium Fishing Line (+5) - Same as above Enchant Gloves Fishing - Find an enchanter to do this on a spare pair of gloves. Ok all this is great how do I make money Now comes the best part, how do we make gold from fishing. Well at low levels, there are several fish that can make you a lot of gold quickly and easily and they include: Firefin Snappers Oily Blackmouth Stonescale Eel All three along with Deviate Fish (gets its own section in this guide) are used by Alchemists. They sell very well on the auction house with a stack of Stonescale Eel going for an average of 30s to 50s per fish (depending on your server economy) with Oily blackmouth and firefin snapper going for anywhere between 10-20s (depending on your server economy). These fish can be found in many old-world areas such as Arathi Highlands, Ashenvale, Azshara, Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Ghoslands, Feralas, Hillsbrad foothills, Hinterlands, Swamp of Sorrows, Tanaris, Wetlands, Westfall. The eel is found mainly in Azshara, Feralas, Hinterlands and Tanaris. Each area has its own base fishing skill requirement While you are leveling your fishing up, you will also run into Bloodfin Catfish, Raw Greater Sagefish, Raw Nightfin Snapper, Winter Squid. All these sell very well raw as well. Cooked, they sell even better. For example "Winter Squid" that can be cooked into "Grilled Squid" is currently going for about 50s a piece (raw) and cooked version goes for about 20s a piece. Why is raw more expensive? Well that's the best part, until 2.4 hits and even after it hits, you will see that these old-world raw fish always sell higher than cooked versions because a lot of people buy them to level their cooking. While the buff food is not really necessary for everybody, they love the raw ones to level cooking so sell these raw, don't cook 'em. Do a scan on AH and find out whether the cooked version is selling well or raw version and act acoordingly. Now that you have leveled up to 375, this is where the real money comes. In the outlands, all fish can turn into amazingly good buff food. and believe me, while the raw fish can sell really well, the buffed food can sell higher sometimes. One of the big money maker is Furious Crawdad. When you are leveling your cooking, furious crawdad can end up giving you the last points you need to reach the 375 point. Sell 'em raw if you see they are selling high or cook them in spicy crawdad (+30 stam makes them a great tanking buff food) and then sell them. Prices? Wowecon says Raw goes for 1g50s and cooked goes for 1g9s. Nice isn't it? To fish these you require a flying mount though and fishing maxed out with 375, plus the +100 lure and have a good pole (about 500 is what you need to stop those pesky fish got away messages). Other fish include Golden Darter - +healing food - great seller Icefin Bluefish - great seller +spl dmg food Crescent Tail Skullfish - +spl crit food Figluster's Mudfish - +agi food Zangarian Sporefish - +mp5 food You can catch any of these, sell 'em raw or cook 'em and sell them and make plenty of gold! Then there are the pools of pure water in Nagrand. Just last night, I fished out EIGHT Primal waters in about 1 hour of just farm fishing these pools, moving from one pool to another, a stack of Icefin Bluefish, a stack of Figluster's Mudfish (on the AH, the cooked counterpart of these brings me about 20g a stack give or take, mainly more than that). Several scrolls, several tight bound chests (that contain good loot like Fel Iron Ore, Netherweave cloth, Knothide Leather Scraps). Even the scrolls sell really well. Today morning when I checked my inbox, the two stacks of Protection Scrolls (V) that I had fished out were both sold for 10g a stack, that's 2g a scroll. So in an hour of fishing, I got 8 Primal Waters, two stacks of buff food, several scrolls and other junk. Then in an hour of fishing in Zangermarsh, I caught one Goldenvendor fish (sells for 6g to a vendor), several steam pump engine part (sells for 50s each to the vendor) think I caught 10 of them, several Fel Iron Bolts (sells for about 55-60s on AH), Elemental Blasting Powder (for about 55-60s on AH), Two stacks of Feltail and one stack of Zangarian Sporefish. In addition, they also gave me enourmous Barbed Gill Trout (sells for about 1g raw) and Huge Spotted Feltails. See the potential? Tips: Move quickly from pool to pool and fish every pool for the more profitables to spawn (such as pure water). Pools anywhere in outlands will get you motes of water but fishing in Nagrand will get you the most motes of water. Scan your auction house to see what sells better, cooked version or uncooked version and sell it accordingly. Level up your cooking alongside your fishing to always be able to cook any fish that you can catch. Sell low level fish on AH raw once you have milked it for cooking skill points, even really low level can sell well on the weekend when people are playing on alts or trying to powerlevel cooking.
