This is a short writeup on how you should behave in endgame raids as ranged DPS. I have all too often seen people make the same mistakes, and generally act stupid, so these are my observations on the ranged classes...and how they should be played. I have a blue-geared 60 mage and 60 hunter and an epic 60 warlock, so I have been around and I do know how 2P :) The discussion os focused on endgame raids (10 man and up) and how to fill your DPS to the max. As such, the builds may not be optimal for PVP. Also, these are my own experiences, others may feel difrrenetr so feel free to chime in :) Warlock Builds Warlock pets don't scale well with raid encounters, so most of the time you jsut keep them on hand for their passive benefits (eg. Imp's blood pact). I am of the opinion, that demo locks spend to many points on worthless talents to get to the good ones (succi sac), so I prefer a classic SM/Ruin spec. Affliction gives you a lot of good stuff up to Shadow Mastery, so I highly recommend this build. http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/talents/warlock/talents.html?55002005122210050000000000000000005050005122000100 Gear +Dam gear is key to doing damage. Forget about Dreadmist, that sucks. All too often I have been in raids with locks in Dreadmist, who were feeling leet because of that...only to have me do 2 times more total damage....and that's in blue/green damage gear. FORGET DREADMIST! Also, Deathmist sucks. Get blue dam gear and you are much better off. Crit-gear is not dam gear. 95% of the time you are worse off going for crit over dam, so go for dam. On a 800 point SB, 1% crit more or less equals 8-10 damage extra overall....and that's nothing. You do need a few %crit, but don't get infatuated with it, since you will hurt your damage more often than not. Locks can lifetap for mana, so go for STAM instead of INT. Having a large mana-pool can be a benefit (casting longer = means higher DPS), so alternatively go for INT. It's a matter of preference, really. I like having the HP buffer from STAM, so I can take a hit or two from molten giants :) SPI is useless, since locks cast all the time and can lifetap. Key Skills Lifetap: Lifetapping keeps you going after the mages have run out of mana. Lifetap + bandage = 2400 mana every minute. that beats the pants off of evocation. DOT, lifetap+ lifedrain will keep your damage up, as well as your HP, all while allowing the priests to heal the tank. Curses: Curses are what makes locks different from mages. 10% extra damage, mobs not running away, 3000 damage after a minute can all be done. In large raids you should coordinate with your fellow locks, so you don't apply the same utility curses (elements, shadow). Curse of Agony does more damage per minute than Curse of Doom, keep this is mind. I don't even have CoD on my hotbar. Soulstone: Coordinate with other locks in the raid, so you always have a rezzer SSed (in smaller raids (for horde) with few shammies..or none (for alliance)). In larger raids, keep you MTs SSed (and a rezzer for alliance), as this can mean the difference between downing the boss or not. Doing Damage Your primary damage source is Shadowbolts. DOTs will however also do considarable damage, so keep these up. On large HP mobs (40 raid mobs), I keep COA and Corruption up, then fire SB until they run out, then re-apply, lifetap and SB until mob is dead. In boss-fights, apply DOTs and use life-drain most of the time, to keep your own health up, while conserving priest mana.
