Level 20 PvP: This was kind of hard to do as I do not know where you placed
your 11 talents points, although not allot of points they can make a difference.
The greatest factor that will give you an advantage in WOW PvP is having no
fear. If you are like me, then the very first time you are solo in a PvP area
and see a target, your heart will beat faster, your blood pressure will rise and
after the battle you will notice your palms are sweaty. This may sound like I am
overdoing it, but this is how I am. I am EXTREMELY competitive, I play to win
and failure is simply not an option. LOL, I blame my "blood lust" on the
military, having served for 4 years in the U.S. Army in a combat MOS.
Before we begin, lets list some don'ts in PvP:
Don't:
Have fear - It will make you do the wrong things like, clicking the wrong hotbar
key, running, clicking and dragging a hotbar skill instead of using it. This may
sound stupid but if you are a noob and you have never PvP'ed before, the first
thing you should do is go up to an enemy player and let him kill you, don't even
swing or cast a spell, you really need to get this "first death" out of the way.
Run - If you PvP with any intelligence, then YOU will select when and where you
PvP, WOW is extremely simple, if you are in a contested area or enemy area then
you have chosen to PvP. Since you have chosen when and where you started PvP,
why run? Unless you are facing an enemy many levels above you or a group of
enemy players, keep fighting.
Waste your points - Never put a single talent point in ANY skill that will not
be effective in PvP. Any skill that has "reduces threat level" in its
description is a waste of points, as this does not work in PvP.
Grief your kills - Instead of spending time sending tells, dancing, flipping
off, and flirting with your kills, why not kill another? The whole objective of
PvP to some peeps is to show off their UbAh L33t 5k1llz, so by the time you
grief your 1 kill so he remembers you for how you PwnEd him, I already killed 2
others. You want to see your name on the boards? You want players to tremble in
fear when they see your name in their target box? Then kill and immediately move
on to others.
Stop moving - Never stay in one place for more then 1-2 kills, after you kill a
player ASSUME that within 5-10 seconds every enemy player in the zone will know
where you are. The player that you just killed will say your location in general
chat.
Be seen - Unless you want to be seen, same reason as stated above, your position
will be announced to the whole zone. Stay off of roads, away from building, and
away from NPC's
Kill Lobies - This is a waste of your time and energy. If you are a lvl 60 and u
see a level 30, don't even waste your time as you do not need a "speed bump" to
slow down your PvP enjoyment, of course if he sees you then you have no choice
but to kill him as he just advertised your location.
Come unprepared - Have full buffs already on and make sure you have at least 5
of each mana/health potion that are the correct strength for your level.
Here are some general tips based upon class and situation:(remember tips are
based assuming you already have your buffs on)
Mage:
Solo: facing a target - no surprise. Frostbolt - fireball, keep repeating
fireball until in range of Fireblast, then arcane missile, then frost nova, move
away and fireball, Fireblast. If you are facing a caster the do not waste mana
and time on Frostbolt as they will try to start casting right away, simply
fireball and repeat until within range of Fireblast or arcane missiles.
Hopefully you already have mana shield(if facing melee) or dampen magic(if
facing caster) casted on yourself.
Solo: coming from behind, have element of surprise. Before engaging, cast your
mana shield(if facing melee) or dampen magic(if facing caster) move to within
range of Flamestrike, cast it then follow steps listed above.
Group: Your primary mission here is to eliminate the enemy healer FIRST, after
healer drops take out enemy casters. If any melee close to within range of your
healer/caster pop a frost nova.
Priest:
Solo: facing a target - no surprise. Mindblast(get that damn 8 second timer
starting to countdown) Shadow word pain,(get that DOT working) then Holy Smite
till within melee. After you take 2-3 melee hits, cast power word shield
followed by insta casted renew. At this point your Mindblast should be cooled
cast it, then shadow word pain again.(Remember Shadow Word Pain is an insta
cast, so you can cast this "on the move", so you should be moving backwards away
from target when casting this spell unless already in melee range)
Solo: coming from behind - have element of surprise. Same as above EXCEPT, cast
1 Holy smite first - why? because Holy Smite takes time to cast and since you
have the element of surprise the first spell is free :) Make sure that the
Mindblast is casted first as that 8 second cool down really hurts, 8 seconds is
a very long time in PvP..(Remember Shadow Word Pain is an insta cast, so you can
cast this "on the move", so you should be moving backwards away from target when
casting Shadow Word Pain, unless already in melee range)
Group: HIDE! - When in PvP, as a priest, always follow the largest character,(I
love Taurens :) YOU WILL BE the first target to die unless the enemy group is
"noobed" - the VERY FIRST party member to take damage you should insta cast
renew on because, it is a HOT,(Heal Over Time) spell and your most efficient as
far as "healing to mana point". You will need to cast Power Word shield on a
member that is taking heavy damage, but keep in mind that this not only has a 4
second cooldown, but also is a mana burner.(You did bring your mana potion
right?) At this point you will need to heal based on situation, keep in mind
that renew is over time so only cast it at the start of combat as by this time
you will be needing to use your regular heals, as the battle is well under way.
You must be aware of your surroundings, you cannot allow a rogue to get the jump
on you from stealth, if this happens pop that Power Word Shield and renew
yourself, hopefully a party member with a root or slow effect will know their
role and use it on the rouge...
Rouge:
Solo: facing a target - no surprise. Run!, the rogue's skills are based around
the use of stealth and therefore if your target already sees you, you are
already at a disadvantage. What are you doing in PvP unstealthed? LOL.
Solo: Stealthed Behind Target - have element of surprise. Crippling poison
should already be on your main hand weapon. Ambush, Sinister strike,(why
sinister strike instead of gouge here? because in order for you to gouge the
target must be facing you, instead of Ambush and moving to get him to face you,
let him turn around while you use Sinister Strike, at this point you will be out
of energy, melee a whack or 2 and Gouge. After Gouge go behind the target and
face his back, the talent skill to improve the time Gouged by 1.5 secs is almost
a "must have or die" skill for all rouges regardless of which talent tree you
took. Wait a few secs here, gouge will last 4 secs and if you took the talent it
will last 5.5 seconds. Why wait? because your energy will build up over these 5
seconds. Backstab, Sinister Strike and Eviscerate with the 5 points built up.(If
facing a caster NEVER drain all your energy as you will need "kick", it only
costs 25 energy so it should be easy to keep 25 energy in reserve) So order is,
Ambush, Sinister Strike, melee 1-2, Gouge, wait... Backstab, Sinister Strike,
Eviscerate
Group: You are solely responsible for taking out the healer, all other targets
are meaningless in the initial 3-5 seconds of PvP. You have SAP use it! Use it
on a caster though, because if your party is experienced in PvP they will all be
trying to kill the healer first and you sap will be wasted on the healer. First
move on the healer is Kick regardless of what the healer is doing, if he is
experienced he will be healing. After kick, Gouge him and STOP! wait for 3 secs,
then backstab him. You could keep attacking him but this will break the stun and
allow him to cast... After the healer drops, the rest of the enemy group will
fall rather quickly, unless your healer is dead as well. Your next target after
the healer is a Mage/caster again use kick...(and make sure you got that poison
on your weapon!)
Hunter:
Solo: facing target - no surprise. Hunters mark as this has a range of 100 and
can be casted before either of you are in range to attack. Send you pet! (pet of
choice in solo PvP is a "caster pet" as most peeps after they lose their
noobness will know to ignore the pet and kill the hunter) Now you would
Concussion, Serpent Sting, Arcane Shot and MOVE! (you may set an immolation trap
first, if the enemy is silly enough to run into it) If facing a caster then move
out of his range until he switches to target your pet then move within range and
repeat steps listed above. If the caster chases you then turn around to face him
and walk backwards, because you can use all your shots while moving.(They are
all insta casts) then turn around and run some more. If facing a melee Keep
shooting until he moves with in melee then Wingclip, and run to max range and
engage again.
Solo: coming from behind target - element of surprise. DO NOT hit Hunters mark
right away, as this is a big warning to the enemy that a hunter is about to
attack! Instead send your pet, if "melee pet" wait until it is 10 yards from
target, if caster pet then wait until you hear the pet finish casting it's
spell, now Hunters mark and continue attacking as described above.
Group: You have a very big responsibility here, whatever target you choose and
cast Hunter's mark on, will be the target most of your party should attack.(Orc
must SMASHY target with big red mark on it!!! LOL) Hopefully you targeted the
healer, send pet against targeted healer and take it down. Next on the list
should be casters, you must never forget that you can use all of your skills
while "on the move" so there is no reason why you should die, unless your whole
party is getting wiped. The pet of choice in group PvP is a "tank class" as
allot of people in group PvP(even after they leave their noobness) still attack
pets for some dumb unknown reason. Until this changes, use a "tank pet" if
however, you are finding that your pet is being completely ignored in group
PvP(as it should be) then switch to a "caster pet"
Warrior:
Solo: facing target - no surprise. I really have a problem here as I simply have
not seen effective Warriors in solo PvP at this level, maybe they will come into
power at later levels. This also greatly depends if you went 2 handed, dual
wielding, or melee/shield as well as what stance you are in. I will attempt to
explain a melee/shield and how you are "suppose" to do it. When starting to
close with target Inner Rage, first hit you should do is Disarm if facing melee
or Shield Bash if facing caster. Blood rage is an option, although this will
greatly depend on what kind of target you are facing and how much health you
have already lost, in general though if facing a melee, use it. Next Rend, then
Heroic Strike.( Try to keep some rage here for your next shield bash) keep
Rend/Heroic/Shield bash, until dead.(NOTE: only use Rend again after it is no
longer in effect on the target.) You must also consider Shield Block if facing
melee.
Solo: coming from behind - have element of surprise. Inner rage, Charge,
Disarm(if facing melee)/Shield Bash(if facing caster). Since you got the jump on
the target almost always use Blood rage here, Rend and Heroic Strike. Repeat
Rend/Heroic Strike/Shield b |
